When you only have one income stream coming in and something happens to that stream – for instance you lose your job due to a layoff or company shut down; you’re injured and can no longer do that type of work, you just lost your main source of income and possibly your only source of income if that’s all you did.

If your primary income is just one blog and you’re relying solely on that blog for your income, any number of things can happen to eliminate that source of cash almost immediately. Your web host might shut down without notice. Your blog might crash unexpectedly.

But if you’ve been building additional ways to bring in cash, then you’ve built a safety net in case the primary source dries up.
